A deep gloom was cast over the community on Tuesday, Feb 7, when it was learned that Mrs. Harvey Murray had passed away at her home, after an illness of a few days. She was the former Gladys Maynes and was born in the United States, coming here as a young bride where she has resided ever since. Of a kind and loving disposition and noted for her generosity to the poor, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
After a short funeral service at her residence, the remains were forwarded to Zion Robertson's United Church where the pastor Rev. W. K. Pace was assisted by Rev. Mr. Kingsbury of the Anglican Church at Mulgrave and Rev. Mr. Robins of the United Church at West Bay. The church choir was in attendance and sang favorite hymns of the deceased "Abide With Me" "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Oh God Our Help In Ages Past."
The late Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Cy, Gauld of Port Hawkesbury, Mrs. Ernie MacPhee of West Bay and Mrs. Wilbur Urquhart of Grand Anse and one son Walter at home. Her mother Mrs. Sarah LeLacheur, also resides in Port Hawkesbury, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Carrigan of Port Hawkesbury.
The pall bearers were: R Williams, Ernie MacKay, Fred Jones, Lloyd Urquhart, Lorne Reynolds and Allister MacInnes.
The many floral tributes, letters, cards and telegrams of sympathy which were received, testify to the high esteem in which the deceased was held.
