Script reads...."John Bassett took the oath of fidelity at the General Court held in New Haven 1 July 1644. He and his wife Margery had beenhired in England to be servants of Mr. Stephen Goodyear, the deputy governor of New Haven...."

Listed in Mother's will as "viz John Emery" (Mrs. John Emery).  Also, on page 3, Vol. 1 of Embree Footprints, it's stated ..."Why he wrote 'viz John Emery...is a mystery. (and) "there is also the strong poissibility that this "viz" notation was made by a cerk or copyist at a later date."
